USDA Reports Growth in Tile Drainage, Limited Use of Water-Quality Controls (10)
WASHINGTON, Sept. 14 (TNSLrpt) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service issued Economic Information Bulletin 301, 'Tile Drainage Systems Management and Conservation,' by Daniel Szmurlo, Benjamin M. Gramig, Steven Wallander and Jane Frankenberger. Issued in September 2026, the report finds that U.S. cropland drained by subsurface tile systems grew by about 18 million acres between 1980 and 2022, while use of practices that limit nutrient pollution from those systems remained uncommon.
