University of Alabama Museums Prepares to Return Ancestral Remains to 4 Native American Tribes (10)
WASHINGTON, Aug. 24 (TNSFR) -- The University of Alabama Museums has completed its inventory of Native American human remains and objects, determining they have a cultural affiliation with several Indian Tribes. A total of 40 individuals and 17 lots of funerary items will be repatriated to the Cherokee Nation, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, the Chickasaw Nation and the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. The collections were gathered from sites in Alabama and Tennessee over many decades.
