WASHINGTON, April 11 -- The U.S Department of the Treasury Internal Revenue Service (IRS) proposed budget for fiscal year 2027 totals $9.8 billion, supporting the agency's core mission of collecting federal revenue and administering the Nation's tax laws. The IRS plays a central role in government financing, having processed 271 million tax returns and collected approximately $5.3 trillion in gross receipts in a recent fiscal year.
