WASHINGTON, Aug. 23 -- A coalition of 27 Pacific movements and civil society organizations submitted a public comment letter to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) urging the agency to abandon plans for deep sea mineral leasing in American Samoa's Exclusive Economic Zone. The representatives state that seabed mining is a destructive industry and should be banned.
