WASHINGTON, Aug. 23 -- The Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council, Honolulu, Hawaii, has issued a public comment letter to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) regarding its request for information on commercial leasing for outer continental shelf minerals offshore American Samoa. The Council has raised serious concerns over the potential negative impacts of deep sea mining activities on local fisheries in the region.
