WASHINGTON, Jan. 29 -- The National Science Foundation announced that it expects to award up to 60 grants for research on igneous and metamorphic rocks and minerals.
The agency description of the grant states: "The Petrology and Geochemistry Program supports basic research on the formation of planet Earth, including its accretion, early differentiation, and subsequent petrologic and geochemical modification via igneous and metamorphic processes.
