WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 -- Sen. Richard J. Durbin, D-Ill., has introduced legislation (S. 309) to "give Federal courts additional discretion to determine whether pretrial detention is appropriate for defendants charged with nonviolent drug offenses in Federal criminal cases."
The bill was introduced on Feb. 12 and was co-sponsored by Sens. Mike Lee, R-Utah, and Christopher Coons, D-Del. It was referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
